Baby showers can be fun, joyful, exciting, and overwhelming for the parents-to-be and the guests! As a Mama who was blessed with four baby showers (two friends/family and two work showers), we got a lot of gifts for our sweet boy. Of course, we were so appreciative of everything that was given to us, from the sentimental blankets, to the cutest outfits, to the everyday things… these were the things that I carry with me when shopping for other mamas to be!
Forget the Frills, These Were a Godsend
One of the top baby shower gifts we were given was at my husband’s work shower from two lovely ladies that just knew. We opened the gift, and my husband was immediately confused. They saw his face and said, “Trust us, it’s all things you don’t know that you need it until you do.” They had given us a huge box of the following:
- Diaper creams (at least 3 different kinds)
- Infant Tylenol
- Infant Motrin
- Gas drops
- Grip water
- Boogie Wipes
- Saline nasal drops
- PediaLax (liquid suppositories)
As a first time parents, we had no idea what half of these items were or what to do with them until we needed them. And Lord have mercy did we need them!
Hatch to the Rescue
This was a gift that we didn’t register for but we were so thankful to get! The Hatch Rest All-in-One Sleep Machine saved us not only in the newborn days but still to present day! This was super helpful in getting our little one to sleep and stay asleep. It also has a nightlight function for late night feedings and diaper changes. Once our son started sleeping in his room, this was essential in creating the bedtime routine with stories, songs, and sounds.
Diapers and Wipes for Days
I know what you’re thinking… “Duh, Olivia! Why would we not bring diapers to a baby shower?!” You absolutely want to bring diapers to a baby shower BUT, you want to make sure to get a variety of sizes. We were blessed to barely need to buy diapers until our son was around 6 months old. When you help to build up the diaper supply with different sizes, it can help the parents-to-be transition the baby into other sizes without needing a trip to the store. Don’t forget to throw in some wipes, too! Wipes are essential, not only for diaper changes but also for the many messes to come. Want to step your gift giving game up a notch? Throw in a diaper pail! It will definitely get put to use.
Snuggles, Support, and Sanity: Thank You, Boppy
If the mama-to-be has registered for the Boppy nursing pillow, get it!! If they didn’t register for (and they don’t already have one), get it! Being a parent can be exhausting and your arms deserve a break. We loved this pillow, and so did our baby. It is so comfy and multipurpose that it’s a game changer! If you’re walking through Target while reading this to find a gift for a baby shower in a couple of hours and can’t find the Boppy, go for the Snuggle Me Lounger.

I’m definitely not hating on the sentimental and personalized gifts. We received several of those, and we will always cherish them. These items were the big ones that saved our minds and provided a lot of peace. Happy shopping!
